About Divorce Records in North Carolina
Divorce records are managed by the North Carolina Vital Records Unit, which is a division of the Department of Health and Human Services.Divorce records are available from 1958 to present. Certified copies of vital records are available only to the registrant, spouse, sibling, direct ancestor, direct descendant, stepparent, stepchild, persons needing information for a legal determination of personal or property rights, or an authorized agent, attorney, or legal representative of any of the above listed people. Uncertified copies are available to the general public.
