Orange County is located in the central portion of Florida, and is Florida’s fifth most populous county. Orange County was originally created in 1824 as Mosquito County; however it was renamed as Orange County in 1845, when Florida became a state. Orange County is bordered by Seminole County, Volusia County, Brevard County, Osceola County, Polk County, and Lake County. The University of Central Florida, situated in northeast Orange County, is the nation’s second largest public college for student enrollment at 66,183. There are 13 municipalities within Orange County with the largest city, and the county seat being the city of Orlando. The city of Orlando is known as “The Theme Park Capital of the World,” and in 2016, its tourist attractions drew more than 68 million visitors. The two most significant attractions are Walt Disney World and Universal Studios Florida. The city is also one of the busiest American cities for conferences and conventions. The Orange County Convention Center is the second-largest convention facility in the United States.
