Wayne County is predominantly rural, with many Amish farms and communities to be found in its southern half. Amish agricultural products and furniture contribute to the county's economy, along with the tourism they generate. Non-electric appliances and traditional hand tools may be purchased at Lehman's Hardware in the unincorporated community of Kidron. The county was formed in 1808 and is named after the Revolutionary War hero General Anthony Wayne. Wooster, the largest city and county seat, has about 26,000 residents. Wayne County has three other small cities, 12 villages, and 16 townships. Bordering counties include Medina on the north, Summit on the northeast, Stark on the east, Holmes on the south, and Ashland on the west.
