About Death Records in District of Columbia
The Vital Records Division of the State Center for Health Statistics, a division of the Department of Health, manages all death records in the District of Columbia. Records are restricted for 50 years. During the restriction period, immediate nuclear family members, legal guardians, and legal representatives may access the birth and death records.
