Recently passed California Assembly Bill 1168 requires local agencies to redact social security numbers from public records. This bill also requires that, for documents containing complete social security numbers, public versions of the documents be created that only show truncated ssns. County recorder offices will be allowed to assess additional fees to cover the additional costs associated with developing and maintaining “public documents” and a ssn truncation program.

Who at the recorder’s office would be ultimately responsible for seeing this bill through, I wonder.
