Washington Business Licenses Directory

The Washington State Secretary of State maintains corporate records. The Secretary of State offers a corporations registration search that allows for searching registration information on corporations, limited liability companies, limited partnerships and other entities which register with the Secretary of State. Searches may be made by company name or ubi number and the state also provides information about online registration or renewal of corporation licenses. Businesses that are required to collect sales tax, have annual gross incomes over $12,000, or are required to pay taxes or fees to the Department of Revenue must register with the Washington State Department of Revenue. The Department of Revenue offers a business search by business or owner name or ubi number.

Business and professional licenses may be issued by the state or by a city. Many cities in Washington require businesses have a city business license for any business operating within that city's jurisdictional limits. The State also issues business licenses. The Washington State Department of Licensing (DOL) issues business and professional licenses to a number of businesses including appraisers, architects, engineers and realtors. The DOL offers a search of these licenses by business or individual name, license, ubi number, or address. The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries handles worker comp claims, business insurance, as well as licenses for contractors, electricians and plumbers. This agency offers a contractor license search by business or individual name, business owner name, license number or ubi number. This search enables the user to determine if a contractor is registered with L&I or has any claims against his or her bond.

The Washington State Department of Financial Institutions licenses and registers various financial professionals and businesses such as mortgage brokers, escrow agents, loan originators and investment companies. This agency offers a search of these type of businesses and professionals by name, file number, and license number. The Washington State Bar Association is responsible for licensing and registering attorneys in the State of Washington. The Bar Association maintains a directory of lawyers that is searchable by bar number or individual name. The Washington State Department of Health maintains records on health care providers including doctors and facilities. A provider credential search is available by credential number or individual name. Health care facilities may be searched through the Department of Health by facility type or name.
