Virginia Vital Statistics Directory

Vital records include birth, death, marriage, and divorce records. In Virginia, vital records are managed by the Office of Vital records, which is a division of the Department of Health.

Birth and death records are available from 1853 to 1896 and 1912 to present. Marriage records are available from 1853 to present and divorce records are available from 1918 to present. Birth records are restricted for 100 years after the event. Death, marriage, and divorce records are restricted for 50 years after the event. As such, during the restriction period, these records may only be obtained by the registrant, parents, spouse, and siblings.
