Texas Vital Statistics Directory

Vital Records include birth, death, marriage, and divorce records. Texas vital records are managed by the Texas Department of Health Services, and by the County Clerk in each county.

Birth records are restricted for 75 years. As such, during the restriction period, birth records may only be obtained by the registrant or immediate family members. Death records are restricted for 25 years and during the restriction can only be accessed by immediate family members. Birth and death records are available through the Texas Department of Health Services or the County Clerk in the county where the event occurred.

Marriage records can only be obtained through the County Clerk in the county where the marriage license was issued. Divorce decrees can only be obtained through the District Clerk in the county where the divorce was finalized.

Vital records managed by the Texas Department of Health Services can be obtained online, in person, or in writing. Some counties provide online access to certain vital records; however, vital records obtained through the County Clerk can also be requested in person or via mail.
