The Maine Department of the Secretary of State Bureau of Corporations, Elections, and Commissions is responsible for all business filings, including corporations, limited liability companies, and trademarks. An online search is available where searches can be performed to obtain business records, such as Certificates of Existence and other corporate filings. However, registration may be required to access certain records.

The Office of Licensing and Registration, a division of the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation, handles the licensing of most professions in Maine. License searches can be performed by profession, company/person name or license number. The licensing of medical professionals is managed by the Board of Licensure in Medicine. Online searches can be performed by name, town, and license number. Attorney licensing is managed by the Maine Bar Association. Attorney license records can be obtained by contacting the Maine Bar Association in person or by phone.
