Florida Vital Statistics Directory

In Florida, vital records are the responsibility of the Florida Department of Health. Vital records include birth, death, fetal death, marriage, and divorce records.

Birth records are restricted in Florida for 100 years after the event. During the 100 year restriction, birth records can only be accessed by the registrant if 18 years or older, to the registrant's parents or legal representative, or if the registrant has died and a death certificate is provided to the Office of Vital Statistics. Birth records can be obtained by the registrant, spouse, child, grandchild, or siblings. Birth records are available from 1865 to present.

Death records are restricted for 50 years. During the restriction period, death records may be accessed by the decedent’s spouse, parent, child, grandchild, sibling, or legal representative. Death records are available from 1877 to present.

Marriage and divorce records can be obtained either with the Clerk of Court in the county where the marriage occurred or through the Office of Vital Records. Records before June 6, 1927 can only be obtained from the County Clerk of Court. Marriage and divorce records are not restricted and therefore can be accessed by any interested party, however, they are not recorded with the Office of Vital records until 60 days after the marriage or divorce was finalized.

Records from the Office of Vital Statistics can be ordered online, by mail, or by phone. Each county also has its own Department of Health where vital records can be ordered.
